Sand blasting machine uses to remove dust, rust, corrosion, and rough surface of metals and nonmetals with the help of abrasive. Sand Blasting Machine is also used to mold and to clean the surface of the metal and nonmetals. By providing high pressure to abrasive through compressed air or blast wheel. Sand blasting is also one of the simplest, quickest, and most convenient ways to clean a surface before applying any form of coating.

Sand blasting machine, also known as abrasive blasting machine, Sand blasting is a surface finishing procedure that includes spraying abrasive particles at high pressure against a surface with a powered machine — commonly an air compressor and a sand blasting machine with compressor. Because it blasts the surface with sand particles, it's termed "sand blasting." The sand particles generate a smoother and more even texture as they strike the surface.

Sand Blasting Process

Sand Blasting Machine process uses Air pressure, centrifugal wheels, or water pressure for the abrasive media towards the surface to be cleaned. Compressed air is used to push the abrasive in either a suction-type or pressure-type procedure in air blast (or dry sand blasting machine) systems. Centrifugal wheel systems use a revolving impeller and a mix of centrifugal and inertial forces to mechanically move the abrasive. Finally, the water (or wet sand blasting machine) blast method propels an abrasive slurry towards the cleaned surface using either air or water pressure.

Working of Sand Blasting Machine

Sand Blasting machines typically require a high-volume air supply (typically 90 to 100 psi. ), a container or pressure vessel to contain the abrasive, a metering device to control the air-to-abrasive ratio and flow, a flexible hose to deliver the abrasive, and a hand-held sand blasting nozzle to aim the abrasive media the workpiece. Many portable systems also include huge hopper-fed storage tanks, allowing many blasting operations to be carried out from a single supply source. The first step in the sand blasting equipment procedure is to figure out what materials and equipment you'll need to finish the job. It's also crucial to clean the surface you'll be working on to ensure there's no residue that can result in a blemished finish.

Sand blasting machine is the use of abrasive media to clean or texturize a material such as metal or non-metal. The most commonly used blasting abrasive is sand in sand blasting. Shipbuilding, automotive, and other surface preparation and painting sectors all employ abrasive blasting.

Sand Blasting Equipment

Portable sand blasting machine, hand-operated units in sand blasting rooms, hand-operated cabinet type sand blasting machines, automatic blasting machines, and wet Sand blasting machines are the five types of abrasive sand blasting cleaning systems currently in use.

Portable Sand Blasting Machine

Portable sand blasting machine normally require a high-volume air supply (usually in the 90 to 100 psi range); a container or pressure pot to contain the abrasive media; a metering device to control air-to-abrasive media ratio and flow a flexible pipe to deliver the abrasive media, and a hand-held sand blasting nozzle to aim the abrasive media onto the workpiece. Many portable units also have large sand blasting hopper fed storage tanks which enable multiple blasting processes from a single source of supply.

Hand-operated Units in Sand Blasting Rooms

Although hand-operated units in Sand blasting room often include a big hopper for abrasive media storage, the units themselves are essentially portable sand blasting machines. Sand blasting rooms have three main advantages:

 (1) the ability to provide and employ a dust control ventilation system,

 (2) cost savings from recycling the abrasive, and

 (3) dust and debris containment so that they do not spread over vast areas, endangering other workers and machinery.

Sand Blasting rooms are typically found in plant locations where a steady stream of comparable objects needs to be cleaned. This allows the usage of a single material handling system to continue.

Blast cleaning room and Sand blasting booth come in a variety of sizes, ranging from single compartments to rooms with several blast cleaning machines. To transport parts to be cleaned, some blast cleaning shops use railroad rails and flat carriages. Pressure blast cleaning huge prefabricated portions of ships is possible in one of these shops (located in one of the country's larger shipyards).

Cabinet Type Sand Blasting Machine

Cleaning small items that can be handled or positioned on a rotatable mandril is usually done with a Sand Blasting Cabinet. The blasting surface and the abrasive media are both contained within a metal sand blasting cabinet in such units. The abrasive media discharge is controlled manually, semi-automatically, or automatically. When automatic machines are used, the cleaning cycle is tightly timed and can be turned off automatically. A vision glass is included with manual machines. The operator can put his hands and arms into rubber gloves and sleeves that protect him from the abrasive discharge through two apertures. This machine is frequently equipped with gasketed doors and operates under negative internal pressure to keep dust contained within the machine's boundaries. Negative pressure switches can be utilized with this type of machine, however, they are normally optional and have a short lifespan due to the abrasive environment inside the cabinet.

Automatic Sand Blasting Machine

Automatic Sand Blasting machine is larger and more solidly built than cabinet machines. They usually work on the centrifugal wheel principle and use timers and automatic shut-off controls to provide the optimum level of abrasive exposure. A workpiece can be tumbled on either a rotating table or an infinite spinning belt, exposing all sides to the abrasive. Depending on the weight of the job, machines are loaded mechanically or manually. The belt movement on tumble blast machines can be reversed to unload cleaned components into tubs or skips automatically. Large parts are cleaned on rotating table machines. To make loading and unloading easier, the table may be swung in and out of the enclosed blasting chamber. Once the doors are closed to keep the dust contained, the cleaning process begins. These devices remove the rubbish from the abrasive that can be used. Several special purpose machines have been created and built to undertake certain blast cleaning activities. Long lengths of structural steel can be cleaned in a machine, while dust is contained at the exit and entry points by heavy hanging rubber skirts. Other machines use overhead traveling conveyors and enclosed blasting chambers to allow items to be cleaned continuously as they move through the chamber for a precisely timed cleaning cycle.

Wet Sand Blasting Machine

Wet Sand Blasting method can be used on portable machines as long as the abrasive media and water are sufficiently combined to make a slurry. Otherwise, the slurry must be propelled using heavy-duty compressors and hose lines. Normally, special purpose machines use the wet-blast approach to recycle the slurry on a continuous basis. Rust inhibitors are typically added to the slurry because rusting of metal items is an issue. Cleaning golf balls is a common application for the wet-blast technique (300 every five minutes). In a cabinet-style negative pressure machine, balls are poured into a spinning basket. After a hot and cold water rinse, the cleaning slurry is removed from the balls, which are then air-dried and sent to the machine's packaging area.

Wet sand blasting machine operations help to manage dust on portable equipment, but they can leave muddy, wet, and slippery floors in the blast cleaning area. Water pressures of up to 10,000 psi are used in some contemporary water-jet blasting devices. A power unit and pump, a water filter, a pressure gauge, and a discharge Sand blasting nozzle make up the equipment. 4 to 14 gpm water flow rates have been developed. The operator is put under a lot of stress when the water pressure is high. To aid in the removal of paint from metal and other materials, some units use a limited supply of abrasive pulled from an open supply hopper.

Application of Sand Blasting Machine

  • a surface to be cleaned of oil, grease, and scale
  • Sand Blaster is the simplest and quickest method for removing old paint and corrosion from metal surfaces.
  • Provides a smooth, high-quality finish with good adhesion to the paint.
  • offer perfection before the material is covered with a protective coating to avoid harm.
  • Sand Blaster Equipment is a low-cost, rapid rust removal process.
  • As a result, sand blasting the surface prior to painting, galvanization, or any other type of coating should not be disregarded, as it is considered the most important stage in successful surface preparation.
